Property division is often contentious in divorces without kids

The decisions you make at the end of your marriage can significantly impact your future. If you don't have children with your ex, you won't have to worry about child custody but that doesn't mean you will have an easy time. Instead, you might find that the decisions you have to make are hard. We work with you to review the possible choices you have at each step.

One contentious area that you will have to work through is property division. You and your ex might be after the same assets, which can lead to problems with the negotiation process. We are here to help you find ways to move forward, so you can end the marriage as quickly as possible. There are still waiting periods, but you certainly don't want property division to be the reason your divorce takes a long time.

When you are going through this process, remember that you don't want to walk away with a small sliver of the assets and the larger share of the debts. It is a good idea to begin the process by discussing the larger assets like the home and vehicles. By starting with these, you are getting the biggest potential disagreements out of the way.

Once you have those larger assets divided, you can work on getting the smaller ones split up. These can be used to fill in the holes that exist from the division of the larger assets. You also use debts to even things out some. We can help you determine what options might be viable in your case.
